Our Aggretages for London
MOT Type 1 is a sub base that is formed using recycled crushed concrete and consists of rubble of varying size, from 40mm right down to dust. It compacts well to form a solid base which makes it an ideal sub-base for jobs such as: pavements, roads, drives, car parks and patios. MOT Type 1 can be made from Granite, Limestone or clean Crushed Concrete and is the most widely used approved sub-base in the construction industry.
This aggregate is crushed to 40mm down to dust creating an aggregate containing a range of particle sizes that are compactable with efficient load-bearing qualities. MOT Type 1 is a must for any condensed area with high flowing traffic and any application where a firm sub-base is required needs type 1! VIP take pride in distributing MOT Type 1 across the UK.
MOT stands for Ministry of Transport and relates to the government department who were the predecessor to the Department of Transport. In general, their role is to regulate and maintain all 4,300 miles of road in the UK and they set specifications relating to all materials that are used to lay roads; MOT Type 1 being one of the most crucial. As such the latter aggregate must meet specifications to ensure optimum safety on UK roads.
Crushed concrete is an aggregate composed of clean crushed concrete and brick. The size of this aggregate varies from 75mm down to 40mm.
Sharp sand is typically made from ground rocks and is sometimes referred to as builders sand as its ideal for laying blocks, paving and patios.
Ballast refers to a mixture of sand and gravel that is used to make concrete. Generally, the size of the grains/stones vary from 0.1mm upwards to 20mm.
There are two different types of gravel which are 10mm and 20mm. 10mm gravel, also known as ‘pea gravel’ is primarily used for decorative purposes and drainage.
Topsoil is defined by the top 2-7 inches of soil that has the greatest organic content. Organic matter is what is left after plant roots and leaves.
Building Sand is a finer grade than sharp sand with smaller particles. It’s often mixed with water and cement to make mortar for laying bricks, patio slabs and blocks.
